Winter is knocking the door of the northern hemisphere and with it, the clothing industry fills up with trendy pieces that probably we have seen lots of times before. Fall 2016 for most houses was characterized by an extremely wearable trend, which many can say is the best approach, but the fashion fanatics might think is just for commercial reasons as a crowd pleaser. But we mustn't forget that for the most of the globe having trendy but wearable pieces in our closet is the most sensible and practical thing to do, not all of us live in a fashion dream and have to keep living our daily life, as in our jobs, homes, social gatherings; plus, it is not only for economical but environmental reasons that we need to reuse our closet for at least two seasons. If your closet is full of basics, the smartest thing to do is to add trendy accessories from fabrics, jewellery, eyewear or else to keep your outfits IN while keeping black numbers in your bank account, but always look stylish and current... YOU DECIDE!

Whichever your thoughts are on this matter, the fashion houses just did that: revamped old (or retro) trends and fabrics which offer us both good memories and a chance to rework our last season wardrobe, making life easier for all of us and reaching a wider audience at the same time.

The purpose of this article is to offer you an ample idea of what you will see while you scroll down your instagram account, the online stores and in the streets, so you can pick & choose what is it that you adopt as your own style, keep from the last season in your closet or make a budget and be smartly prepared for the chilly days ahead. Some of the images keep all trends in one, so open up your eyes and see how the designers are already mixing and matching the trends we are talking about.

The amount of information is so vast, that we decided to offer you a general description of these trends, mostly with images, and each week we wil go deeply into each of them. Where to buy, how to work/wear your trendy pieces and how to mix and match with those lovely pieces which you already own.

Sign up to gosscloset.com so you can do just that, uploading the images of what you have in your closet to mix and match with your wish list or shopping mall/new arrivals.... be informed and clever before you buy! (see how here).

TREND #1: CHUNKY KNITS.

For quite some seasons the chumky knits were put away as were being considered to be unflattering and not dressy enough for the fashion forward, but did we mention a practical approach for Fall2016? What a better way to keep yourself warm and cozy specially in those areas where the mercury hits rock bottom? Cozy knits! There is a wide array of colours (we prefer off-white!), patterns, styles and lengths to choose from.

TREND #2: VELVET

In 99% of the shows, there was at least one piece of velvet walking down the runway... we dare to call it the fabric of the season by far! It showed in clothes, shoes (open & closed, high & flat), hair accesories, scarves... just everywhere! So if you really feel like getting trendy, add some velvet pieces to your closet and not just one! Or if you already have anything velvety in your closet, keep it and give it a twist by adding some excentric necklace or mix with a ruffled shirt.

TREND #3: PIJAMA STYLE

We have seen this loungey style come and go. Well, for this season it has come with a blow and in a diverse range of fabrics. We can call it just the Leisure-Fashion and gives you another chance of staying comfortable but out of the gym look so common these days. Pair this style with velvet mocassins or flat mules for an elegant-chic played down look. Opt for a casual day look or a night out outfit.

TREND #4: NOT JUST RUFFLES BUT WAVES

Mr. Karl Lagerfeld pointed out backstage for his Fendi show 'They are not ruffles, they are waves' referring to the movement he intended to offer to his creations, against clothes sitting flat against the skin. Well, many other designers agree with Mr. Lagerfeld and you can take that to your advantage to offer your outfit a little movement stepping out of 'boredom world'. Waves offer your outfit a bit of a Louis XIV's look, a bit french and aristocratric air at the same time, which can be easily played up with a gorgeous gown or dressed down with a pair of jeans. Jump into the sophistication train and do yourself a favor by adding a wavy mood.

TREND #5: HEAVY / EMBROIDERED FABRICS

Not only are embroideries a symbol of wealth and nobility but are a great way to bring up any kind of outfit and pull it together. Imagine you're wearing your jeans and basic white shirt but then you throw a beautiful embroidered gown, jacket or coat... it goes from nay to yay in seconds! Plus adding a pair of velvety mules will give you a tremendous royalty flair! This season designers showed some extremely beautiful embroideries which won't go cheap, but we consider them an investment piece in which quality plays the main roll, your closet will treasure it forever!

TREND #6: BIG scarves / ponchos

We don't know if to tell you to grab a blanket and use it as a scarf or the other way round, but what we do know is that this way of suviving the cold is literally cozy and stylish! The length of this scarves may well offer you the chance to wrap your whole body around, so be ware of the measurements before you click the BUY button.

TREND #7: SPRING FEEL FOR WINTER

For those who feel the winter blues, adding flowers, leaves, birds or whatever with a spring smell to your closet will help to lift up the spirit. Let alone that you will be trendy and ready to hit the road. The spring sense for winter comes in prints, embroideries, in both clothes or accessories or jewellery, all cleverly crafted pieces of art, so choose whatever fits best to your style and liking.

TREND #8: METALLICS

Just as with velvet almost every runway showed at least a piece of glittering and shinny metallic piece, like a revival of the seventies where an attention seeker finds refuge. This time round is found for many ocassions other than just night clubbing and some garments can be easily combined to make them work for your 9-5 routine, going out or chill around the streets with a shinny and warm coat... once again you decide, but make sure your closet and outfit get a least one or two shinny pieces somewhere.

TREND #9: FURS

If it is a Fall/Winter season, furs are a must for every closet. The only things that change are colours, shapes, materials (when it's faux fur), where and how you place them to add a trendy and current touch. So if you're still to get your first fur, go for a classic style which can last you a lifetime or get a piece of faux fur the best quality you can afford so it looks pretty for years to come. Have a look at this year's proposal from the designer and choose your favourite furry friend: there is vast range from clothes, footwear and accessories to pick from.

TREND #10: JUMPSUITS

We have seen this retro trend come back for a few seasons now, so there is nothing new about them, only when it comes to shapes, fabrics, sizes and a little tweak or two which offer a smell of new and current; leather and metallic jumpsuits will be the turning-head ones this next season. Got one already? Keep it and style it with a new coat. Don't have any? Time to make a budget and grab a fancy jumpsuit, penty to choose from for any occassion!

TREND #11: ADD A TWIST TO THE BASIC DENIM-WHITE SHIRT COMBO

We could wirte for hours about the basics in your closet and the must have's or have not's. But we are sure 99% of women on this planet have a white shirt and a pair of jeans amogst their possesion. If not, they must be from mars! As we have said, this season is very down to earth and most designers walked down the runway many basics from our closet and added a beautiful twist, which in some cases translates in adding embroideries to your jeans, wearing the pieces back to front, adding ruffles here or there, using a bit more fabric for oversize clothes or flare jeans or sewing denim pieces together to achieve a nice piece of patchwork style. These images offer a visual effect of those ideas so you can mix and match with your own beloved pieces and decide which ones you need to upgrade for a tendy look!
