A jacket is such a versatile and a must-have piece of clothing of your closet that can make you look very formal if paired with dressy trousers as well as give a cool-chic look if paired with jeans, a t-shirt and pretty accessories and also goes well with shorts, skirts, dresses... it just fits any lifestyle and helps converting 'anything will do' to creating exceptional outfits.

You don't need to have an immeasurable number of jackets in your closet, all you need is having the basic colours and the right shape... but as they come in an infinite number of shapes, colour, texture, lengths, fits, prints, designs, sleeves, and for many different occasions as well, so the hunting can easily turn into a nightmare.

You are not alone: finding the perfect jacket is not a simple task. Just remember the number one rule when trying a jacket on: great FIT. This is key for it to look good, even if this means you need to have it altered. A good tailor can shorten sleeves, add, take or move buttons, shorten the jacket, reshape lapels, let out or take in seams, etc., so it is worth it to find a good tailor near you.

Once you have worn the perfect FIT jacket, you will never look back and you will develop your instinct in knowing what works best for yourself. We explain here the basic elements that any fine quality jacket needs to have to make it look good on different body types/shapes, so the wearer doesn't look baggy, boxy or cheap.

And then, squeeze the life out of your jacket and use it to make you appear leaner, taller, elegant, sexier, very classy, proud of yourself and so very womanly...

We are here to help you choose not just the best, but the best for you,  so we will keep posting more tips on this and other topics, including beauty, health, lifestyle, the latest trends for the season and best deals from our shopping mall.

BASICS FOR ALL JACKETS

Shoulders: you need to go for a straight shoulder that doesnt pull or drag. A good test is to reach your arms forward or overhead; if you can do this without pressure or pulling the fabric, this is the correct size, but if it pulls or feels forced in any way, take the next size up, even it it means you have to have it altered in some other areas.

Body: the body of your jacket should fit close to your body without clinging, and show NO horizontal lines pull lines across the back or hips, if it does it means it's too small for you; the vents always lie flat and closed; a buttoned jacket should fall back into place by itself after you lift up your arms; the nips or waist curves should be soft and smooth without showing any pulling.

Collar & neckline: the collar hits near the neck without standing away from it and without any excess bunding under it.

Lapels: they lay flat against your body and start to roll just above the top button; if the lapel gaps, again the jacket is a size too small in the back and chest.

Sleeves: get the right length by having the sleeve (with your hands down to the side) hit just under the wrist at the 'snuff-box', that small indentation created close to the wrist when stretching out your thumb; sleeve lining never twist or show longer than the sleeve (unless you are rolling it up your arms).

Just an insight of the season trends from our shopping mall:

BASICS BY BODY TYPES

CURVY: try semifitted styles that hit at the point where the hip starts to curve out, just covering the derriere; belted styles go great for curvy woman as they emphasize the waist; single breasted jackets with a button just under the bust will showcase the bust without making it bulky; go for narrow lapels and contour seaming to play with vertical lines and balance out the figure; look for flat-textured fabrics that drape.

Seasonal options for curvy women:

PETITE WOMEN: go for shorter or cropped styles with simple lines as you dont need to overwhelm your figure; single breasted with one or two button closures; narrow lapels, avoid excesive details or big patterns.

Season Trends that look amazing on petites:

RECTANGULAR / LINEAR BODIES: the styles that hit at mid-hip and are nipped at the waist help these women create an hourglass figure; peplum styles; go for belted and double breasted jackets; you can indulge on heavier fabrics and rich textures; look for breast pockets and other details to enhance your chest area and relaxed shaping works well too.

Some great options from our shopping mall:

NARROW SHOULDERS: consider using the Chanel-type jackets as they work wonders for balancing your shoulders, as well as double breasted styles; look for structured shoulders or add a little extra padding to the jacket; go for wider neck openings; look for set in sleeves, where the seam of the shoulder hits before the shoulder starts to curve down, its the opposite to a dropped shoulder style.

Some very stylish jackets for your closet:

BROAD SHOULDERS: try longer styles with loose or unsestructured shoulders; raglan, kimono or dropped style sleeves work very well; single breasted, small lapels, V-necks, shawl collars, vertical seaming will all balance the width for broad shoulders.

Great picks for broad shoulders:

FULL BUST: Fitted or semi-fitted styles work wonders for a full bust woman; deep V-necks and single breasted jackets will balance the fullness without hiding the lovely curves; go for narrow lapels; a button closure just below the bust and flat-textured fabrics that drape well.

Styles that will help you showw-off your gorgeous curves:

SMALL BUST: go for fitted jackets that nip at the waist; belted and double breasted styles with breast pockets; shaped or scopped necklines and also draping details at the shoulder and down to the front.

Perfect additions to your closet:

FULL TUMMY: best to go for semi-fitted or straight-cut styles that reach below the derriere; go for narrow and vertical details as well as single breatsed and V-neck designs.

PS Don't follow the runway style to the letter and cover your upper body with a beautiful top!

Some beautiful numbers to bring out your assets:

SHORTWAISTED: You have the privilege of longer legs which makes you appear taller and slimmer, so you can go for styles that nip a bit lower than your natural waist to balance your upper and lower body. Also, try semi-fitted styles that hit below the derriere; single breasted designs with one or two button closures; narrow lapels and styles tapered to the waist; you can add some little padding or shoulder structure to the jacket.

Great options to create amazing outfits:

LONGWAISTED: Cropped semi-fitted styles that hit up the hip bone, never below and taper above the natural wait. The idea is to give the illusion of longer legs, as they make you appear taller and slimmer.
